i didn't used to get why people might not want the name they use online to be easily attachable to their legal name.

due to various things going on in my life at the moment, i now totally get it.

i think that people's names, of whatever form, should be able to be traced back to them, by people in the community where they use that name. but that's different from "easily attachable to their legal name".

the cultural appropriation discussion that will not die is going around again. and once again there are a whole bunch of white people saying "but why are you so angry about this?" or "if you'd only be polite!" or some other variation on that theme.

here's the thing that has helped me *greatly* in this regard, as a pastyass white person.

just because you think someone is being an asshole to you doesn't mean they're not right.

what it does, likely, mean is that they're angry and you're defensive. *both* of those things. can't do much about them being angry, because it's not all about you. can do something about you being defensive. such as take a few deep breaths, kick something real hard (desks are good for this, as are refrigerators), and then see if you can strip all the anger off of what they said and look at it just as a thing that was said. and then why are you being so defensive?

last time i got caught by this i was asking other people to do my homework for me. which sometimes you can do, and sometimes you can't, and i should have known i was in the latter situation, but i didn't think about it enough beforehand. and then someone called me on it and i *still* think they were being an asshole about it, but you know?

today they tore out my basement shower, left for three hours (there was a good reason for leaving, but not a good reason for not explaining clearly about it), then went to go buy parts which turned out to be unavailable (is it just me, or is the first rule of projects "gather everything you need"?), and then explained to me that my "one hour project", as brad matala kept spluttering at me over the phone, was in no way going to be done tonight and tomorrow they'd start looking for the parts they needed but that they had other things to do today.

when i said that i was not happy with this turn of events, and did not consider their lack of communication or their planning skills to be very professional, brad matala (it could be pigs; i'm not sure about the goats) told me that since it was obvious that i wasn't going to be happy with the results, how about they didn't charge me any money and they didn't finish the job.

i am very happy to not be charged money.
i am very happy to never have to deal with any of those people again.
i am very unhappy to be without a shower until, likely, thursday, as the other contractors i called are going to be able to squeeze me in and will get this problem solved for me, but while this is, they say, an emergency, it does need to be fit around other jobs.
i am very happy with the new contractors. so far. the woman there was very soothing to me on the phone, and communicated all necessary details to me. communication! who'da thunk it?

reciting facts is neither libel nor slander, i'm certain. i'm just wondering what saying they fuck goats is.

so. if i keep getting telemarketing calls from the same company, they refuse to honor my requests to put me on their do not call list, and i just got called a dumb bitch when i asked to speak to a supervisor, any thoughts about who a person could mention that to?

eta: i did realize that this number was not on the do not call registry, and now it is. so, in about a month i will hopefully no longer get called every few days by these cretins.

i am about to be a published poet. for money and everything.

i've been not talking about it much so as not to jinx it, but it looks like it's going to happen.

(you'd have to chase down the rest of the authors for the other autographs your own self, though.)
